- Jack was a keen rambler being introduced to rambling by Fred Holgate the bookeeper at his father's garage. During the second world war he was based in Egypt and later Italy where he proudly boasted of singing in La Scala opera house (no one else was present) He lived in Lesotho for some thirty years where he was a keen bowler and won many trophies. In 1981 he climbed Cathedral Peak to celebrate in 75th birthday. After the death of his second wife he returned to Winerskloof to live as a companion with his first wife, M.E. Bryan, where he died peacefully in front of the fire eating his dinner. [1]
