Notes |
- The final 'e' of the name Brown seems to have disappeared about 1800. The family seems to have originated in or around Liverpool and North Wales and came upon hard times, the earlier John Brown being a drover and sheepherder. As a result of some legal action concerning the rights to property one of the daughters did considerable research and discovered that indeed the family name was spelled "Browne". As a result, her generation is about evenly split in the way the name is spelled, e.g. there are TWO Kenneth John's, one Brown, the other Browne - cousins!
As a result of this research it was discovered that the English poet, Felicia Hemans (1793-1835) was a Browne, sister to the Browne next before the attached Table starts. Among her poems still in some vogue are: "The Stately Homes of England"; "Casabiance" (The boy stood on the burning deck), and "The Landing of the Pilgrim Fathers" (The breaking waves dashed high on the stern and rock-bound coast).
