- James emigrated, with his brothers, to Australia in 1852, with the intention of Sarah following with the children when he was settled. Unfortunately Sarah died in his absence in 1853 and the children, David & sister Ellen, then lived with their grandmother in Scotland until they all emigrated to Australia in 1863. [1]
